Goreme, also known as Avcılar town, is 500 meters from the center of rock churches. It is a town established in the west and in the Goreme valley, living together with its natural beauties and historical ruins. About 5 km. In this place, which has a square area, there are beautiful fairy chimneys, rock cavities and churches from the iconoclastic periods. Many of these churches were destroyed before, and only one or two churches with frescoes have survived today. The inhabitants of this place continue their lives together with those magnificent fairy chimneys and rock cavities. In this region, since the winter is cold and summer is hot, rooms with cut stones are added to some of the rock cavities to protect them from the cold of the winter and the heat of the summer. These rooms are warm in winter and cool in summer. Some of them serve as hostels for tourism today.

In order to watch the fairy chimneys and the endless beauties in the Cappadocia region, it is necessary to look at the vineyards 2 km west of the town or from Uchisar Castle. The residents of Goreme town understood the importance of tourism very well and considered serving tourism as a duty. Yusuf Koc Church was carved into a high fairy chimney in the same location and was used as a dovecote until recently. It is one of the churches built after the Iconoclastic Period and has a cross-cross plan and two apses. The pillars of the church were destroyed, but the frescoes inside remained clean. Its interior structure and paintings are very similar to the Elmalı Church in the open air museum. Since these two churches are private land, they are named after their owners. Buckled Church;

It is the largest rock church in the region and consists of 4 places. These; The small-sized single-nave old church is the large new church, the church below the old church, and the side chapel.

 The Hidden Church;

It is on the right side of the ridge 300 meters before the Goreme Open Air Museum. The entrance door of the church was closed and hidden due to erosion for centuries. It was discovered by accident in 1956. The preservation of the originality of the frescoes inside the church is due to the fact that the church remains hidden.

Virgin Mary Church;

Turn left next to the Tokalı Church. After going 100 meters further north, the Kılıclar Valley, whose depth reaches 30 meters, is reached. In the Church of the Virgin Mary, there are frescoes with many scenes from the Bible and in these frescoes, Hz. Mary's prayer, Hz. The praying and crucifixion of Jesus and the figures of other saints are reflected.

EL Evil Eye Church;

Before arriving at Goreme Open Air Museum, after going 1 km along the dry tea bed on the right, you can reach the El Nazar Church, which is alone among the vineyards, after further 100 meters from the path that leaves upwards on the left. 11th century The frescoes belonging to this church are in this church.

Elmali Church;

It was carved into the rock on the right of the road, passing the Kizilar Monastery on the way to the Churches area. A dome is placed on four pillars. There are pictures symbolizing the blessing of Jesus in the dome, the baptism on the walls, the migration to Jerusalem, the last supper, the crucifixion and the betrayal of Judas, one of the apostles.

Snake Church;

It is one of the interesting churches. There are no columns and domes in this church. It has a curved ceiling and the pictures are made to the sides. There is also a tomb inside the church.

Carikli Church;

Goreme Open Air Museum is at the end of the Churches chain. The stone stairs have been damaged by erosion, and the church is reached by the iron stairs built later.

Barbara Church;

Located to the right of the Goreme Open Air Museum entrance, Elmalı Kaya Church is a two-column cross-plan church carved into the southern part of the rock block.
